Sexual Assault Public Relations Management

Everyone knows a #MeToo allegation can ruin a career, destroy a legacy, or land you in jail. The truth is, the response of the accused can change the course of a #MeToo claim entirely. There is nobody in the nation that has the experience we do handling #MeToo cases AND having established ourselves as the nation's top legal contributors. We base our firm out of New York City because the heart of the news is decided in this city.

There are phenomenal PR firms that handle the largest world's largest media stories, yet these high profile firms routinely fail to develop compelling responses to claims of sexual misconduct. The PR world leans toward a "woke" narrative that demands acknowledgement and validation of the alleged wrongdoing. We believe it is important to strongly and boldly deny allegations of sexual wrongdoing whenever possible. We also believe it is important to ensure the public hears a strong counter-narrative as often as possible.

The timing of a PR response to a #MeToo claim is almost as important as the message itself. PR firms fail to properly consider the legal implications, and lawyers get so focused on their case, they forget about what the public thinks. In the world of #MeToo claims, you want a team that can develop a PR response AND a comprehensive legal defense strategy.

Is the Trump indictment constitutionally legitimate?

BY KATIE CHERKASKY AND ANDREW CHERKASKY, OPINION CONTRIBUTORS – 08/04/23 9:00 AM ET

The so-called “January 6” indictment against former President Trump has finally dropped, and pundits on all sides have been voraciously analyzing the charges and the underlying conduct that President Trump allegedly engaged in, which the Department of Justice says amounts, essentially, to conspiracy to impede an election and obstruction of the right to vote.

But they’re all getting ahead of themselves.

What’s the crime in keeping classified documents? Trump — and the nation — may find out

BY KATIE CHERKASKY AND ANDREW CHERKASKY, OPINION CONTRIBUTORS – 08/18/22 2:00 PM ET

“No person is above the law.” This is the common refrain we’ve heard from the Department of Justice (DOJ), Attorney General Merrick Garland and many analysts to justify the FBI search of Trump’s residence at Mar-a-Lago, reportedly to obtain classified documents that the former president allegedly kept.

Military takes tough sexual assault cases to trial. That’s why its conviction rate is low.

CATHERINE CHERKASKY, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR | Published 3:15 a.m. ET March 31, 2021 | Updated 9:02 p.m. ET April 1, 2021

If you are an outsider only loosely familiar with the concept of “sexual assault in the military,” then you may be susceptible to what seem to be altruistic proposals from advocacy groups and senators looking to change the laws surrounding sexual assault in our armed forces. But as a career military justice practitioner, both on the prosecutorial and defense sides, I would caution you to look closely at any proposals put forth to determine if they will actually prevent or reduce sexual assault in the military, or adjudicate the cases in a more “fair” manner.

CATHERINE and ANDREW CHERKASKY, OPINION CONTRIBUTORS | Published 12:01 p.m. ET June 9, 2020 | Updated 11:15 a.m. June 11, 2020

The protests following the killing of George Floyd at the hands of uniformed police have yet to subside in cities and towns across our nation, forcing all of us to face the undeniable truth that perhaps we, as a nation, have not come as far as we like to pretend in terms of eradicating racism.

‘Believe all women’? Now that Reade has accused Joe Biden of sexual assault, never mind.

CATHERINE CHERKASKY, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR | Published 4:00 a.m. ET April 29, 2020

In early October 2018, amidst the hysteria surrounding the confirmation hearing of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, I wrote an opinion piece for USA TODAY questioning the wisdom of the “believe all women” rhetoric that many cited in condemning Justice Kavanaugh, without any critical analysis of the allegation against him.

Christine Blasey Ford is no poster child for women’s rights: A female attorney’s perspective

CATHERINE CHERKASKY, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR | Published 10:00 a.m. ET Oct. 4, 2018 | Updated 8:55 a.m. ET Oct. 5, 2018

I want to believe — need to believe — that people are not as simple-minded and generalizing as the news media have portrayed. That logic and reason still matter. That it is obvious to others that the Brett Kavanaugh versus Christine Blasey Ford construct is a terrible study for real issues with sexual violence in this country.
